Who could forget? Interesting concept trading one eccentric star for another to-be eccentric star, but I don't think these "Subban wanting out" rumors hold any ground. Besides, I like Yakupov too much

I growing tired of people suggesting that offer sheets are going to be given out to whoever. The fact is that the PLAYER has to be willing to sign that offer sheet knowing that they have to live up to the deal MATCHED OR NOT! So Montreal could offer Hall or Ebs an offer sheet. I doubt either would sign them. Why would they?

depending on beaulieu and tinordi progression, that could be a good trade for both teams

Would they take N. Shultz, Whitney, the second round pick from anahiem next year. Plus a couple prospects or depth players? Players from the bottom ten of your listed 20? We also have a log jam of prospects coming up and could part with players they might like. Who knows, they might take Omark or need a 4th line center like Lander of Belanger.

Giving them 2 proven veterens on d, and some prospects allow them to compete now and allows edmonton to shed salary and play their young guys. It might mean Potter plays the 6th dman role but how many minutes does that mean in a game? Plus with Whitney's track record he is a gamble with his injuries and Schultz is no all star. Potter could turn into something but shultz will always just be a "safe player" and never bring strong offensive or exceptional puck moving.

Ok so your works competition offers you way more money then your job to do the same thing.. you would't even be remotely interested in being "the guy" Offer sheets hand out more money most of the the time than the player is worth at the time of signing like Dustin Penner as an example.

Yakupov + Galchenyuk would give the Canadiens an incredible 1st line for the next 15 seasons.

They'll both be UFA in 7 years.

Perhaps longer depending on CBA changes
But not much, there's no way the NHL's Big Dogs are going to give up the access to prime-time players they have now.

So you would move across the country to a less desireable competitor just to take a pay raise? I would sooner work it out with my current employer or be damned sure that the team I was going to was a contender.

Klefbom is not an untouchable. He's not in the same league as those other 5 players you listed. If Klefbom, another prospect, and a pick gets you Subban, you take it and run.

Yakupov for Subban will never happen.

Montreal would want Yakupov+ and Edmonton would want Subban+, no chance they meet in the middle.

Personally I don't think Subban is worth a 1st overall pick but even if Edmonton was willing to trade Yakupov for a top line D-man they are much better off targeting someone like Yandle. Offer Yakupov and a couple of prospects you will never miss like Marincin, Musil, or Hartikainen with some picks and you should be able to land Yandle and OEL.

Personally I wouldn't move Yakupov at all unless someone is overpaying (Yakupov, Peckham, 4th for Yandle, OEL or something crazy like that). No need to move a future star like Yakupov that wants to be there and has a chance to be your best player in a fair trade.

doesn't really matter, how many star players only look to finish their 7 years and then leave, and how many are from a big market like Montreal where they will be treated like celebrities?

The comment about 15 years is completely possible especially when they start their career in the city. Especially considering Montreal should be a huge playoff team by then (with Galchenyuk & Yakupov they would be).

If you can trade a guy who is yet to play an NHL game for a guy who will definitely be part of your top pairing you do it. Especially when you have a surplus of talented wingers and no defense.
